Bali Introduces New International Tourism Levy: What Visitors Need to Know

Bali, known for its stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and lush landscapes, has long been a popular destination for tourists worldwide. However, recent changes in the tourism landscape have prompted the Indonesian government to introduce a new tourism levy for visitors to the island. Here's what you need to know about this new development.

What is the new International tourism levy?

Starting February 14, 2024, all international tourists arriving in Bali must pay a foreign tourism tax. The tax supports the island's infrastructure, environmental conservation, and cultural preservation projects.

How much is the tax?

The one-time fee is IDR 150,000 (USD 10). The cost is charged per visit/arrival in Bali.

How will the tax be collected?

Tourists can pay it at lovebali.baliprov.go.id or at the airport upon arrival. Pay the tourism levy via the Love Bali website or App before arrival. A QR code is sent to your email to be scanned at Bali Airport and sea ports.

Who needs to pay?

You will have to pay a fee if you are an international tourist. However, some types of visas are exempt from this fee. These include diplomatic and official visa holders, conveyance crew, KITAS and KITAP holders, family unification visa holders, golden and student visa holders, and specific non-tourist visa holders.

What are the benefits of the new tourism tax?

Introducing the tourism tax is expected to benefit Bali and its visitors. The tax revenue will improve infrastructure, such as roads and utilities, to accommodate the increasing number of tourists. Additionally, the funds will support environmental conservation efforts, including beach clean-up programs and preserving Bali's natural beauty. The tax will also help fund cultural preservation projects, ensuring that Bali's rich cultural heritage is protected and promoted for future generations.

How will the new tax impact tourists?

While the new tourism tax will increase the overall cost of visiting Bali, it is a relatively small amount unlikely to impact most tourists' budgets significantly. The tax is also a way for visitors to contribute to the sustainable development of Bali and support the local community.

In conclusion, the new tourism tax in Bali is a positive development that will help to ensure the long-term sustainability of tourism on the island. By contributing a small amount to the tax, visitors can help support infrastructure improvements, environmental conservation efforts, and cultural preservation projects, ensuring that Bali remains a beautiful and vibrant destination for years.
